DOMENICO FOSCHI
B
orn in Bari, Italy, DOMENICO FOSCHI is an award-winning Fine Art Photographer & Master Printer who will present "The Power And Beauty of Black & White Street Photography" at Clickers & Flickers' photo-networking dinner. Most recently his stunning black & white photography, printed exquisitely from his body of work entitled "Women" graced the walls of the Leica Gallery in West Hollywood.
The story goes that since childhood, Domenico Foschi was always exploring different kinds of creative media. He found that photography would be what he would stick with for many years to come, after stealing his brother's camera for a short trip. He was 19 at the time. Thereafter, not being able to afford a formal education in photography, Domenico studied the work of the masters in books. He found the expressive power of the work of Alvin, Langdon, Coburn, Kertesz, Steichen, Stieglitz, Strand, Sander, Penn, Avedon and others of pivotal importance to his direction as a Fine Art Photographer.
Working in the Sergio Guidetti Studio Fotografico, Domenico received "hands on" training on the use of large format cameras, to developing and printing techniques. He then worked as a freelance photographer in Ravenna, his home town, shooting primarily for magazines, newspapers, the City administration and political parties. Domenico moved to the United States in 1989. Here he has produced many different portfolios ranging from portraits, to landscapes, to still life, and street photography. His commercial work included producing CD covers for recording artists and commissioned Fine Art Black & White portraiture. Domenico has received awards for his images, and his work has been published on View Camera Magazine, Black and White magazine, Silvershotz Magazine, Blow Photo Magazine and other printed and online publications.
In recent years Domenico's work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States, including at the gallery of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and in galleries in Spain and Italy. In the year 2009 Domenico was a grant recipient from the ARC Foundation, and in January 2012 his work travelled to Vibord in Denmark for an exhibition at the Braentergarden Museum.
